Inaugural Antarctic Science Platform conference and National Modelling Hub opening
The Antarctic Science Platform was honoured to have Hon David Parker, Minister for the Environment, officially open the National Modelling Hub at Victoria University of Wellington last Tuesday (17 November). The Hub is a collaboration between VUW, GNS Science and NIWA and brings together some of the brightest minds to provide updated future projections and collectively address urgent climate change questions ranging from sea level rise to ecosystem impacts.
Having visited Scott Base a number of years ago and seen some of our Antarctic research first hand, the Minister shared stories from his Antarctic experiences, and highlighted the high-quality Antarctic research carried out by Kiwi scientists. You can read more about the National Modelling Hub here
Following the opening our inaugural Antarctic Science Platform Conference got underway. Over three days over 120 Platform researchers and policymakers came together to share science updates, discuss policy relevant outputs, and urgent priorities. The science conference, stakeholder plenary and panel discussion sessions were followed by eight expert workshops focusing on Mātauranga Māori, science to policy translation, interdisciplinary coordination, new capabilities and research opportunities, and how share our stories with New Zealanders. We were also thrilled to be joined by friends and collaboration partners from the RossRAMP, NZ Sea RISE and the National Science Challenge Deep South.
The Platform would like to thank Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University, for hosting its first conference, it was wonderful to connect with everyone kanohi ki te kanohi.
Antarctic Science Platform on a Page in English and Te Reo
We are pleased to share with you our new flyers outlining the vision and mission of the platform. We are particularly excited that our Kāhui Maori arranged for the flyer to be translated into Te Reo. The translated name of the Platform is: Te Tūāpapa Pūtaiao o Aotearoa mō Te Tiri o Te Moana.

Research Management Impact: Australasian Research Management Society Conference Presentation
Platform Manager, Caroline Pratt was invited to present a Research Management Impact Case Study at the Australasian Research Management Society Conference. The Case Study highlighted how Research Management Professionals are also required and able (along with researchers) to deliver impact.
