Application Requirements

Prior to traveling to Antarctica, successful applicants will be required to:

  • Undergo a comprehensive medical examination (by their own doctor);
  • Complete a Preliminary Environmental Evaluation (PEE) to assess the impact of their proposed project on the Antarctic environment;
  • Hold a valid First Aid certificate.


After returning from Antarctica, scholars are required to:

  • Submit four copies of a logistics report and an immediate science report to Antarctica New Zealand no later than four weeks after returning from Antarctica;
  • Submit a final report (New Zealand Post and Kelly Tarlton's scholars) and interim report (Doctoral scholar) detailing the research and results to their sponsor and Antarctica New Zealand . Doctoral scholars are also required to submit a final report at the end of their scholarship term.
  • Acknowledge in any reports, future publications and all associated publicity the sponsor of the scholarship and Antarctica New Zealand.
