Antarctica New Zealand has a mandate to support excellent science through a peer-reviewed science bidding round.

The Foundation for Research, Science and Technology (FRST) and Antarctica New Zealand ran a joint Bidding Round in 2009 to select science programmes for support over the next 2-4 years.  

Antarctica New Zealand anticipates it will hold a joint Bidding Round every four years. 

Antarctica New Zealand will also run a smaller focused bidding round (an interim round) every other year to allow for the inclusion of new projects that could be supported by Antarctica New Zealand in the following season if there is sufficient availability of logistics.  This will enable researchers to test a new idea which could provide the necessary rationale to apply for additional logistics support and research funding.
