FAQs on Science Support Q: I am a student wanting to undertake postgraduate study in the Antarctic. How do I go about this?
A: The best way, is to contact a researcher involved in your area of interest in Antarctic science. A list of the various researchers can be found in the science section of the webpages. You could then work as part of their team from their institute if you are sucessful in securing a post-graduate position with them.
Q: I am a postgraduate student studying towards a degree in an Antarctic-related topic. Do you have any funds I can apply for?
A: Yes, we have a postgraduate Antarctic research scholarship programme. See link below.
Q: I am a researcher wanting to get involved in Antarctic research. How do I go about this?
A: Antarctica New Zealand holds a Science Bidding Round every two years (see link below) for people who want to undertake scientific research in Antarctica and who are affiliated with a New Zealand institution. This opens in August and has a deadline in early October. This application would be for work on the ice in the following year (ie not the year that the application is made). You will be asked to submit your proposal of research along with an outline of your logistics needs. This proposal goes through a science peer-review process and an indication of the success of your application is given to you early the next year. To discuss this further contact Shulamit Gordon.
