Evaluation of the surface mass balance of the Darwin-Hatherton Glacial System, Antarctica, using the Polar Weather Research and Forecasting numerical model
This research aims to evaluate surface mass balance (SMB) of the Darwin-Hatherton glacial system (DHGS) from the output of a numerical weather prediction model, in conjunction with physical process models. Then advantage of using this method over current methods would be that it could produce SMB estimates at higher spatial and temporal resolution, have the capacity to estimate future SMB, provide insight into the mechanisms that cause variability in SMB, and provide a clearer picture of the contributions of individual processes such as sublimation to the total SMB of the DHGS. The resulting method from this research could be applied to other glaciers in Antarctica
