Antarctica New Zealand is a small Crown Agency with a significant public profile. The guiding framework is provided by its statutory functions; the Government's Revised Statement of Strategic Interest and other related policy decisions and directions for New Zealand's involvement with Antarctica. Within this framework, Antarctica New Zealand runs a public awareness programme that aims to profile the global significance of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean to New Zealanders and increase understanding of New Zealand's role within the Antarctic Treaty System.
Profiling our work in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean also gives us high national exposure, builds partnerships, creates inspiration, and strengthens our international relationships and influence.

Since 1957 youth have visited Antarctica with the New Zealand Antarctic Programme. The Antarctic Youth Ambassador scheme aims to engage young New Zealanders in Antarctic environmental issues.
