Application Requirements

Prior to traveling to Antarctica, successful applicants will be required to:

  • Undergo a comprehensive medical examination (by their own doctor);
  • Complete a Preliminary Environmental Evaluation (PEE) to assess the impact of their proposed project on the Antarctic environment;
  • Hold a valid First Aid certificate.


After returning from Antarctica, scholars are required to:

  • Submit four copies of a logistics report and an immediate science report to Antarctica New Zealand no later than four weeks after returning from Antarctica;
  • Submit a final report (New Zealand Post and Kelly Tarlton's scholars) and interim report (Doctoral scholar) detailing the research and results to their sponsor and Antarctica New Zealand on or before May 31 2009. Doctoral scholars are also required to submit a final report by May 31 2010.
  • Acknowledge in any reports, future publications and all associated publicity the sponsor of the scholarship and Antarctica New Zealand.
