Processes controlling the meltwater production on the McMurdo ice Shelf, Antarctica

The primary objectives of the proposed research are to identify processes controlling the production of meltwater on the McMurdo Ice Shelf and to predictively map melting. The overall approach entails field collection of data to establish the surface energy balance and melt rates; a synthesis of existing climatological datasets, data analysis, extrapolation of the data spatially and temporally; and the creation of a GIS-based map of melting.
